Three Steps to Membership
Membership is free and open to individual researchers and civil society members committed to the principles of the Article 6 Observatory.
Apply
Complete the membership application form, confirming your commitment to our guiding principles and independence requirements.
Review
Your application is reviewed by the Article 6 Observatory Steering Committee to ensure alignment with the Observatory's principles and to assess any conflicts of interest.
Participate
Once approved, you gain full access to network meetings and governance processes within the Observatory, as well as the chance to help grow the Resources Hub.
What Members Can Do
Members are part of a growing global network grounded in independence, technical competence, and commitment to environmental and social integrity. As a member you'll gain:
Network Meetings
Engage in member-only monthly network meetings with speaking rights and the ability to propose agenda items.
Resources Hub
Contribute to rigorous, science-based analysis of Article 6.2, 6.4 and 6.8 implementation, including submitting materials for curation in the forthcoming Observatory Resource Hub.
Governance
Nominate and vote on the governance of the Article 6 Observatory, shaping the strategic direction and activities of the platform.
Specialist Expertise
Access specialist expertise and collaborate with researchers and practitioners across a wide range of Article 6 topics.
Research Profiling
Gain visibility for your research by sharing and profiling your work within the Observatory's network and wider community.
Exclusive Events
Access member-only events, workshops, and capacity building sessions focused on Article 6 developments and policy implications.
Membership Options
The Article 6 Observatory Steering Committee oversees membership. There are three tiers of engagement:
Members
Forming the foundation of the Article 6 Observatory, members can fully participate in network meetings, contribute evidence-based analysis, and contribute to governance processes of the Observatory.
Affiliated Organisations
Organisations connected to admitted members that are publicly recognised on the Observatory website.
Subscribers
Open to anyone. Subscribers receive newsletters and updates on Article 6 developments and Observatory activities.
Guiding Principles
All members are required to uphold the Article 6 Observatory's guiding principles and must demonstrate freedom from conflicts of interest that could compromise the Observatory's independence.
Who Can Apply?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed during monthly Steering Committee meetings.
Individual Membership
Applicants must demonstrate:

Commitment to the Observatory's principles: independence, environmental integrity, social integrity (including human rights), transparency, accessibility of resources, and scientific rigour -
Confirm they have not contributed to any instance of fraud or non-compliance with carbon market activities -
Alignment with the Observatory's mandate to support evidence-based monitoring and learning on Article 6 -
Agreement to the Organisational Code of Conduct -
Disclosure of relevant conflicts of interest
Affiliated Organisations
An organisation may be affiliated if:

It is legally registered (e.g., academic institution, research group, civil society organisation) -
It demonstrates technical or practical relevance to Article 6 implementation, carbon markets, MRV systems, transparency and accounting, non-market approaches, or related climate policy research -
At least one individual from the organisation is admitted as a member
Membership Duration
Observatory Membership does not have a fixed term. It continues as long as:

The member remains in good standing -
Continues to meet eligibility criteria -
Complies with Observatory policies
Reapplication
If membership is denied due to ineligibility, written reasons are provided. Applicants may reapply after 12 months.
Organisational Affiliation
Active members have the additional opportunity to affiliate their organisation with the Article 6 Observatory.
Affiliate Your Organisation
In addition to individual membership, active members can affiliate their organisation with the Observatory. Affiliation is free and subject to review.
